Basic Job Functions:
The role of the Level 1 Automation Engineer is primarily, but not limited to: 1) Improve Safety 2) Support Manufacturing and Maintenance Operations 3) Focus on continuous improvement of our technical knowledge and skills 4) Ensure high reliability for our Technological Infrastructure to drive business results.
5) Work with the Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance and Production teams to maintain and optimize the Mill processes.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Process, Electrical or Automation Engineering; or equivalent work experience in automation and controls.
Thorough understanding of Control System Theory.
Ethernet Network Setup and Troubleshooting.
Proficient in PLCs installation, configuration, and development: Siemens or Allen Bradley.
Proficient in HMI development, troubleshooting & support: System Platform, InTouch, Factory Talk View, or WinCC HMIs.
Ability to work or travel on an as needed basis, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in Hardware, Software, Network, Virtualization & Infrastructure.
Industrial Communication Protocols (Profinet, Profibus, EthernetIP, ControlNet, Modbus)
Working knowledge on AC & DC motors and drives.
Knowledge of ISA-95 Information Layers.
5+ years Automation experience.
3+ years experience in steelmaking processes.
