00 hourly Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Research Technician I, under general supervision will assist institute with project support, management, planning, reporting, and other resources management, and support of field operations of research and education projects.
Responsibilities: - Provide an interdisciplinary approach to management and stewardship of installation natural resources, and to sustain JBSA missions and natural environment.
-Responsible for project support, management, planning, reporting, and other resources management, and support of field operations at JBSA.
- Must have good experience in participatory approaches and have full commitment to implement the project in bottom-up approach.
- Must have the ability to handle specific duties and responsibilities of day-to-day project implementation and provide input to project leadership to attain results to sustain natural resources management and mission capabilities at JBSA.
- Help plan, coordinate and support control strategies, surveys, assessments, monthly and quarterly reports, and to ensure quality and quantity of work being performed is at a high level.
- Assist in coordination of biological control programs.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies as needed for field work.
Maintain invasive species database and GIS data layers and generate reports as needed.
- Gather data and conduct analysis.
- Coordinate with TAMU NRI leadership regularly on project status and generate reports as needed.
- Maintain fleet vehicle records and maintenance as needed.
- Communicate closely with TAMU-NRI staff and AgriLife Extension personnel, to plan and implement the JBSA natural resources effort, through training, wildlife surveys, manage habitat for wildlife, invasive species control, and documentation.
- Work under general supervision performs semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of assignments requiring modification and adaptation to routine procedures.
- Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on the successful completion of tasks assigned.
- Provide accurate assistance with analysis, tests and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
- Assemble and operate mechanical and technical equipment to assist senior staff members in conducting field experiments and consults in developing procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and support other working personnel and organizations through various working formats.
- Some travel or overnight stay may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience: -High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Two years of related experience.
Preferred Experience: - Experience in protected animal species, research, invasive species, and ecosystem management.
- Experience in trapping, handling, and general husbandry of wildlife species.
- Experience in collecting samples, measurement data from experiments, and organizing data, managing, and working with assigned project issues.
- Experience in aspects of wildlife management (e.
g.
, threatened, and endangered species, outdoor recreation, land management, invasive species, etc.
- Experience with invasive species, threatened and endangered (T&E) species, GIS, outdoor recreation, depredation, and database management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
-Ability to work with groups or teams, public speaking and writing skills, use of contemporary office software.
- Ability to work cooperatively with wildlife professionals, state and federal personnel, and faculty of Texas A&M University, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service.
- Ability to develop informational media.
-Ability to work independently and complete objectives in a timely manner -Ability to work outdoors in rough terrain and inclement weather.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert heavy force.
- Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to conduct wildlife surveys, common wildlife management techniques and GPS/GIS analysis.
- Proficiency in customer-service skills in game management and recreational-based enterprises.
- Strong networking skills.
