Job Description
The Research Associate will assist the institute with project planning, development, management, and implementation of research and education projects.
Responsibilities:
-Work with clients and staff on all levels, including contractors, research faculty, and TAMU-NRI partners.
-Plan, schedule, and execute work through military installation and Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute.
-Collect data about wetlands, natural resources, listed species, conditions, trends, and current status to guide management activities.
-Monitor and manage wetlands, floodplains, riparian areas, watersheds, and erosion control projects.
-Implement wetland mitigation program to restore and protect aquatic ecosystems, including threatened and endangered (T&E) species, aquatic habitats, and employ soil conservation practices to eliminate upland erosion impacts on aquatic resources.
-Conduct surveys to locate and map target species (e.
g.
, reptiles), hibernacula, foraging areas, and habitat utilization data.
-Prepare, develop, and coordinate Air Force environmental documentation, schedule design reviews and provide watershed permit oversight.
-Other duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
-Bachelor's degree in relevant field
-Two years of related professional experience.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-strong organization and problem-solving skills
-ability to complete projects accurately, on time, and in a professional manner.
-Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
-Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- experience with environmental monitoring/ecological sampling and technical writing.
-Proficiency in use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PhotoShop, ESRI/ArcGIS, and other appropriate software.
-Knowledge of research directing eligibility listing and Section 404, Nationwide Permit of the Clean Water Act.
-experience with environmental monitoring to include wildlife and plant identification, wildlife monitoring methods, ATV operating certification, GPS, and GIS system use.
-Previous experience with federal land management and integrate natural resource plans.
