Job Description Summary:
Responsible for the architecture, design, and continued support of all infrastructure, software applications, and computers in use by The Texas A&M University System Offices, including applications that affect the entire System as a whole.
Research, evaluate and remediate cybersecurity threats.
Provide consultation on and implementation of technology solutions to assist the organization in achieving its goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Virtual environment administration, which includes the research, design, installation and implementation, monitoring and maintenance of virtual appliances, servers and applications, including the underlying physical host, network and data storage.
Research and design best practices, procedures and policies regarding the administration of the virtual infrastructure.
- Local area network support (server hardware and software administration), security, support, maintenance, monitoring, installation, troubleshooting, training and consultation.
- Operating Systems to support include Windows Servers and Windows PC's .
Server services to support include file, print, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL, IIS, Apache Tomcat, and RRAS VPN.
- Perform data backup for disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Act as liaison with vendors and external computing agencies (e.
g.
TAMU IT).
- Perform all or some of the core duties of a System Administrator.
- Provide support for personal computer hardware and software, maintenance, installation, trouble shooting, training and consultation.
- Research, evaluate, assist with purchase, provide recommendations, implement and provide consulting and guidance on technology products for all departments.
- Meet with department heads and various representatives to discuss business requirements, review current processes, and develop and implement new technical solutions.
- Secure servers through operating system hardening, scanning and patching.
- Ensure servers and workstations are secure using centralized administration tools and/or scripts to install software and operating system security patches.
- Remove strains of desktop workstation malware through diagnosis and registry edits.
- Assist management with the research, design and implementation of methods and procedures using information technology to improve business processes.
- Use centralized administration tools and/or custom written scripts to install personal computer images, software patches and upgrades.
- Provide consultation to other System members in implementing new technology solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eight years of system administration, application development, and support experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of computer and network architecture, design, and management.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to lift and move medium to heavy objects such as computers and servers.
- Frequently work outside of scheduled hours.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred certification such as Comp TIA A+ or similar.
- Preferred certification on virtualization infrastructure management.
