As a Construction Inspector with Gessner Engineering, you are responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of construction inspections that ensure projects meet building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, contract and construction specifications.
Construction Inspectors with Gessner collaborate with internal engineering teams to apply shared knowledge of engineering fundamentals and safety regulations to:
Duties & Responsibilities
Attend pre-construction meetings as needed
Evaluate construction progress to ensure conformance with construction documents.
Activities may include but are not limited to:
assisting with engineering calculations
setting up and operating equipment
inspecting equipment and engineering installations for compliance with specifications, and
maintaining project documentation
Conduct field inspections to inspect standards of building structures and materials
Conduct field and laboratory tests on materials to measure compliance with regulations
Refer Non-Conforming items to Engineer of Record
Recommend issuance of non-conformance reports as needed
Work with field staff to verify non-conforming work is resolved in accordance with approved procedures
Review acceptance requests for conformance with specified criteria
Maintain records of construction observations and testing
Oversee the traceability of test samples
Aid in scheduling project testing and observations
Aid in cost estimates as necessary
Perform calculations to include material and labor estimates, expenses, technical survey data and engineering calculations
Interact with Clients and General Contractors
Generate informed, decisions-based lab/field test results
Conduct forensic observation of existing structures.
Develop training pathways for technicians in order to obtain required certifications
Manage certifications for technicians
Coordinate across internal disciplines: Project Management, Structural, Civil, and CMT Departments
Qualifications
Education/Licensure
Required:
High School Degree or equivalent
Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction science or related field
5 years of workforce field inspection experience in lieu of a degree also acceptable
Valid Driver’s license
Insurable driving record (valid, free from moving violations for the past 3 years)
