95/hour (depending on qualifications) Posting Opening Date 01/26/2024 Posting Closing Date Job Summary Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled to skilled routine daily tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City of Bryan buildings and park facilities.
Essential Job Functions Performs maintenance, diagnostic, and repairs on equipment in buildings as needed.
Performs carpentry work in the installation/renovation/construction of cabinets, shelves, trim work, desks, furnishings, and other facility equipment as needed.
Installs, maintains, and/or repairs flooring, ceilings, sheetrock, doors, windows, and other building structures as needed.
Applies finishes, including but not limited to paint and stain, to various surfaces.
Installs and repairs locks.
Assists other maintenance technicians as needed; provides instruction, training, and guidance to new and/or less experienced maintenance technicians.
Performs all work in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.
Inspects jobs upon completion and ensures areas are clean; cleans and maintains shop area and equipment.
Assists in the maintenance of parks Sets up and tears down materials and equipment for special events.
Maintains accurate and complete work records.
Adheres to after-hours, weekend, and holiday standby requirements as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED.
Must possess at least three (3) years of experience in the general construction trade(s) and/or building maintenance.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: The methods, materials, practices, and techniques used in building maintenance, construction, and repair.
Ability to: Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Learn job-related procedures and techniques, primarily through verbal instruction, observation, and on-the-job training.
Safely and efficiently operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and materials used in performing essential functions.
Inspect buildings and equipment to locate conditions needing repair.
Enter, record, and/or maintain documentation of work performed.
Perform work independently based on broad instructions and general supervision.
Perform moderate to heavy manual labor outdoors in temperature extremes for extended periods.
Identify maintenance needs and take corrective actions.
Be constantly alert and aware of safe working practices and workplace hazards; ability to initiate positive and appropriate corrective action in the event of a sudden accident or equipment failure.
Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrate satisfactory performance and a willingness to take on new responsibilities.
Demonstrate regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent’s area of responsibility.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
Physical Demands Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, crawling, climbing, and using hands and fingers to operate equipment and to lift, carry, or move objects up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
While in the field this position is exposed to inclement weather, temperature extremes, rough/uneven terrain, traffic, noise, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, pollen, and other airborne particles.
Equipment Work shall be performed with tools, appliances, and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority, or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: hand tools, power tools, phones, and city vehicles/equipment.
