Summary Responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance and repair of water and wastewater treatment plant heavy industrial equipment, such as large pumps, valves, and compressors.
Starting rate of pay is $21.
19 per hour or higher depending on relevant candidate experience and/or currently hold the required Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater treatment plants heavy equipment, lake pump station, and lift stations, including disassembling, cleaning, replacing and assembling heavy industrial equipment such as large pumps, valves, motors, and compressors; Plans and coordinates maintenance and repair projects with water and wastewater superintendents, including electrical and plumbing, and equipment specifications; Performs preventive maintenance checks on water and wastewater plant mechanical equipment and machinery, including tune-ups, oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication; Maintains equipment controlled by SCADA computer system; Responsible for the appropriate supply of materials and equipment, including preparing purchase requests; Fabricates parts for machinery and equipment according to proper safety guidelines; Completes work orders and related reports; Reads and interprets blueprints and written instructions; Performs basic carpentry functions; Uses welding and cutting torch to repair machinery and equipment and fabricate parts; Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems, monitor control systems, hydraulics, mechanical systems, bar screens, control valves, clarifiers, and other equipment used for water and wastewater treatment; Maintains inventory of, parts, and supplies for machinery and equipment; Operates various types of vehicles, including utilities truck and equipment; Responds to after hour calls for machinery and equipment repair; Orders and picks up parts and supplies as necessary, and assists with maintaining inventory and stock room; Records materials used and time spent on repairs; May, using slinger truck, haul and transfer sludge from water treatment plant to landfill; and Prepares paperwork related to all water and wastewater plant equipment maintenance and repair work.
Supervisory Responsibilities This is a non-supervisory position.
Education and/or Experience High school graduation or its equivalent plus more than five years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge Of Methods, practices, and equipment used in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and engine repair work, safe operation of plumbing, electrical, mechanical and engine repair equipment.
Skill/Ability To Establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively; operate trade specific equipment and assist others in properly operating equipment; apply safety standards to prevent hazards; estimate materials and labor costs for projects; read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and written instructions; and tolerate occasional adverse working conditions; operate computers.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Class B CDL (Commercial) Texas driver's license.
Employees who do not have a Class B CDL (Commercial) Texas driver's license at hire, must successfully obtain this license within 180 days of hire.
The City of Brenham offers an in-house training program to obtain this license.
