The NOV Pathway Rotational Program offers recent college graduates the opportunity to obtain meaningful work experiences through a structured 2-to-3-year rotational program.
The program is designed to help participants develop strong functional/technical expertise and business knowledge through challenging, hands-on assignments and exposure to various groups across NOV.
Towards the end of the program, participants will work with their management support team to identify full-time positions that best suit individual skill sets as well as company needs.
Participants can choose from multiple career track options based on education and career interest.
Each career track has its own training and experience-based learning objectives, and knowledge and performance are evaluated following each rotation.
The start date for this program will be June 2024.
Following the Metallurgy career track, the primary responsibilities will be as follows: Rotations will include but not limited to: Engineering fundamentals Application of material science/Metallurgy education to solve real world problems as related to the oil and gas industry.
Engineering disciplines Basic interrelationships between chemistry, steel processing, metallurgical structure, and performance.
Design Understand the design lifecycle and how each step builds on the previous step to ensure the design output meets form, fit and function requirements, always keeping in mind manufacturability and costing.
Project Management Understand NOV’s organizational structure and what engineering’s role is to support the business.
Learn the fundamentals of how to manage workload/projects, and how to communicate status to the organization.
Materials Science/Metallurgical Engineer Tolerancing standards Gain a basic understanding of tolerancing and fits to ensure components can be manufactured.
Learn the fundamentals of Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per the required standards, i.
e.
ASME, ISO.
Material standards Develop a basic understanding of materials and material standards used in the oil and gas industry.
Development and testing Learn about methods of testing for products/components/materials under high pressure, extreme conditions, and considered critical path for proper design verification before delivery to customer.
Stress Analysis Use computer modeling and hand calculations to determine the suitability of a design to meet its intended requirements.
Collaboration Strategize with cross-functional teams to interpret core concepts and turn into a usable solution for NOV.
We invite you to apply if you have the following qualifications and skills: Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical, Welding, Material Science Engineering, or other relevant science related field.
Working knowledge of metallurgical testing equipment used for destructive testing and material evaluation.
Recent graduate (0-2 years) or graduating prior to December 2023.
Experience working with steel metallurgy, oilfield related preferred.
JOB DUTIES: Perform analysis on returned products in a timely manner, documenting analysis work and preparing technical reports.
Develop new steel chemistries and grades for special R&D projects and/or new products.
Perform lab testing and design qualification test programs/documentation of new chemistries.
Assist Senior Metallurgist with assigned production/product investigations.
Interface with Engineering, Sales, and Field Services on Special Projects.
Interface with Steel Mill & Pipe Mill representatives.
Involvement with mfg.
processes; forge, heat treatment & weld (friction and hard facing).
Involvement with destructive test laboratory.
