Provide the expertise and knowledge to teach credit and non-credit courses in Carpentry.
This includes the use of; building materials, fasteners, and adhesives; hand and power tools; construction drawings, specifications, and layout; floor systems; wall systems; ceiling and roof framing; building envelope systems; stairs layout, etc.
Essential Duties
Teach credit and non-credit classes; continuously review curriculum and methods to improve the quality of instruction; use a variety of hands-on teaching methods to train adults; evaluate student progress and constantly communicate with students and Blinn administration; keep accurate student records and certification files; other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An Associate’s Degree and at least 36 months’ work experience as a full-time carpenter; knowledge and experience in all phases of home construction; knowledge and experience with all tools required for home construction; ability to read blueprints and specifications to determine a work plan.
Preferred Experience and Training
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years’ work experience as a full-time carpenter; experience training carpenter helpers/apprentices; experience teaching adults in a classroom setting; a recognized certification in carpentry or construction trades.
Physical Requirements
Ability to use a variety of hand tools and carpentry specific tools; able to climb ladders to heights of at least 20 feet; able to lift 50 pounds to a height of three feet; able to perform all normal and expected duties of a carpenter
