Description
Under the general direction of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Network Systems Supervisor serves as the senior technical member of the Network Services Division and is responsible for long-range strategic planning, design, administration, configuration, connectivity, operations, and maintenance of network hardware and software components and infrastructure; directing and leading the work of staff in the Network Services Division of Information Technology; and interfacing with end users to provide network-related technical support.
Principal Duties
Manage, administer, support and participate in the activities of the Network Services division and assigned staff, including but not limited to, assigning work activities, projects, monitoring workflow; reviewing and evaluating work products, methods and procedures; working with staff to identify and resolve problems; and serving as technical advisor/lead to subordinate personnel within the assigned unit.
Oversee, train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff; work with employees to correct deficiencies; identify and resolve employee concerns and/or problems, direct and coordinate work; complete employee performance evaluations; and participate in hiring, terminating and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
Maintain an advanced level of expertise in the operation of Microsoft Enterprise environments to include but not limited to the installation and upgrading of operating system software through self-study and formal continuing education.
Establish networking environment by designing system configuration, directing/conducting system installation, defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
Responsible for managing secure remote network access using radius, TLS, VPN, or other advanced technologies; managing the growth and design of the City’s VMware infrastructure; and managing network security including, but not limited to firewall, SIEM configuration and alerting, NAC management, and access to data on all servers.
Advise users of security requirements and access.
Coordinate with vendors regarding hardware and software maintenance and warranty information for the network.
Develop, prepare, and test scripts used for network maintenance.
Maximize network performance through design and management of the IP network layout and routing.
Assess the need for repair/replacement/upgrade of network components and software running on the network to include changes to memory, disk space, operating systems, WAN connectivity, and server processing speed.
Implement and manage network backup systems and storage solutions
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in MIS or related field; and three (3) years’ experience as an enterprise network administrator; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Texas Driver’s License.
Ability to obtain Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
Ability to pass FBI 7-year background check.
Preferred:
Five (5) years’ experience in Microsoft Enterprise environments design and management and in firewall configuration, management, and auditing.
Experience with enterprise backup solutions, layer 2/3 switching and routing, and managing a VMware environments.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.
Additional Criminal Background Screening Required: In addition to the standard pre-employment criminal background check, individuals receiving a conditional offer for this position shall be subject to a fingerprint-based background screening due to the required access to secured buildings and/or secure data systems.
