What we want The Academic Advisor III , is responsible for serving as the primary advisor to graduate students within the new School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts .
This role will work closely with the Graduate & Professional school to process and track paperwork for master's and eventually doctoral students.
A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal/communication skills as well as solid organizational/planning skills.
These skills will lead to success as the Academic Advisor III will guide prospective students through the application process and assist in concerns with admission and re-admission.
This individual will also assist in scholarship and fellowship selection, as well as, support to faculty and program leadership in administrative tasks.
Great attention to detail is needed as this position researches , interprets, compiles, and responds to inquiries about rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

What you need to know Salary : Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree Four years' experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members.
Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, degree audit, and applicable privacy regulations.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely and the a bility to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Other Requirements and Factors: Some evenings and weekend work are required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in recruiting graduate students.
Recruiting experience at conferences, symposiums, graduate and professional school fairs, career fairs, and other events.
Valid Class “C” vehicle operator’s license.
Working knowledge of Howdy, Compass, and ARGOS.
Job Responsibilities: Academic Advising (graduate students) : Serves as the primary advisor to graduate students in the School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts graduate programs.
Works closely with the Graduate & Professional School to process and track paperwork for master’s and eventually doctoral students.
Advises students on educational and career goals and academic requirements.
Monitors graduate student progress and degree requirements .
Interprets university and college policies and procedures.
Verifies completion of degree requirements.
Meets with, advises, and registers incoming students prior to or during orientation .
Promotes student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency .
Coordinates and serves as a lead on communications regarding topics such as degree deadlines, program updates, advising reminders, procedures, and various processes.
Helps determine which communication is necessary for students based on where they are in the degree plan.
Registers students for classes and processes add/drop and q-drop of courses.
Develops a safe rapport with students, communicating accurate and timely information about academic and student resources.
Is accessible and willing to assist students and makes referrals to appropriate resources for issues beyond the scope of expertise.
Administrative : Assists in scholarship and fellowship selection.
Prepares academic advising reports.
Develops systems for maintaining records of student contact.
Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information to enhance the advisement of students.
Participates in student-related program committees.
Keeps advising-related documents and spreadsheets up to date.
Works with the Graduate Administrative Coordinator on various projects.
Provides support to faculty and program leadership in administrative tasks such as scheduling, curriculum, program events, and various other reports.
Assists Graduate Program Directors and Deans with graduate programs.
A ssists Program Directors in formulating and implementing policies and procedures.
Provides recommendations to leadership on the development and maintenance of student records.
Admissions : Guide prospective students through the application process.
Assist prospective students concerning admission and readmission.
Contact and answer questions for prospective students to assist them in submitting admissions documents and the deadlines.
Processes application materials for admissions to the school’s graduate programs.
Liaison with the Office of Admissions.
Student Outreach (Recruiting) : Participate in outreach programs for the school’s graduate degree programs.
Meet with and respond to phone calls and emails from prospective students.
Attend events coordinated by the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies and the Office of Admissions.
Attend required training workshops.
Help applicants with the application process.
Answers inquiries and provides graduate information to prospective students.
Overnight travel may be required.
