What We Want Are you looking for a role within one of largest student-centered units of our university? Consider our Risk Management Coordinator position where you can assist the Department of Residence Life in implementing its comprehensive risk management initiatives.
In this role, you will be working collaboratively with Department of Residence Life staff to coordinate policies and procedures designed to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in safety/security, emergency response/planning, strategic planning, and/or higher ed, particularly on-campus housing.

What You Need to Know Starting Salary: $52,000/year (commensurate based education and experience) Cover Letter and Resume: Your cover letter and resume are strongly recommended.
Position Details : This is a live-out position that includes serving 6-8 weeks per calendar year in a paid on-call, 24-hour, 365-day, duty rotation for a campus population of approximately 11,000 consisting of the University Apartments and Residence Halls, including holidays and University closures.
The pay rate for duty is $125/day, paid hourly.
This position may require occasional after-hours and weekend responsibilities.
The position also offers a monthly cell phone stipend and a relocation allowance if relocating more than 50 miles, as well as a professional development budget of $3000.

Coordinator for Risk Management oversees policies and procedures related to risk management and compliance for the Department of Residence Life, including duty and crisis response, building access, fire and life safety, and handbooks, manuals, and standard operating procedures.
Additionally, the Risk Management Coordinator serves in a campus-wide on-call rotation and serves as essential personnel as situations warrant.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in any field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of related experience, including higher education, emergency management/response, workplace safety, secondary education, public administration, or strategic planning.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements and Factors: Occasional weekend and after-hours work required.
Participates in an on-call duty rotation.
Physical Requirements - Duties include needed ability to climb stairs, see, use a video display terminal, talk and hear, travel from building to building.
**This role is considered essential personnel when the university is closed for emergency purposes.
While on call must remain in the Bryan College Station area and be available to respond on site as needed within a maximum of 20-30 minutes.
Responds to calls during the duty period and must remain alcohol/drug free during the duration of the duty period.
Provides immediate follow up support/guidance to departmental staff in the duty chain as needed.
Effectively communicates necessary information with campus and community emergency responders, the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), and other departmental/university staff regarding crises and incidents involving on-campus residents.
Serves as essential personnel during the duty period on behalf of the department and the Executive Director of Residence Life.
Ensures appropriate documentation and reports are submitted following on-campus incidents and communicates needed information to departmental staff not included in the duty chain, as necessary.
Completes duty log information for issues responded to during the duty period.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field such as student affairs, counseling, or equivalent combination of education and experience Direct experience working with student housing or within a student affairs related field in a university setting.
Essential Duties/Tasks AFTER HOURS DUTY COORDINATION - Coordinates department-wide, year-round duty scheduling, logs and equipment for Resident Advisors, Graduate Hall Directors, Resident Community Managers, professional staff and summer conference assistants.
Maintains department duty protocol and incident notification procedures and trains duty responders on both.
Monitors and consolidates duty reports to ensure training is applicable to real-life incidents and situations.
FIRE SAFETY COORDINATION - Coordinates residence hall safety inspections by collaborating with Environmental Health and Safety, including monthly, annual, and room by room inspections.
Manages department policies and procedures related to fire alarms, fire drills, and prohibited appliances, etc.
and trains department staff on both.
Coordinates department fire drills and manages documentation of drills.
Coordinates annual room by room inspections and manages documentation of inspection records.
Enters work requests related to fire inspections and follows up on completion of work requests.
KEY AND CARD ACCESS COORDINATION - Coordinates building card access for departmental staff and on-campus students.
Manages key and card access records and provides reports as requested by department leadership.
Maintains department protocols related to key management and card access and trains department staff on both.
Works with outside constituents requesting access to DRL buildings to ensure compliance with DRL policies.
Grants card and master key access to department staff.
Coordinates department key inventory processes in accordance with DRL key management protocols and procedures.
HANDBOOKS, MANUALS AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES - Maintains resident handbooks for residence halls, apartments, and Corps dorms and coordinates annual review of policies and handbooks.
Trains department staff on policies and procedures.
Maintains department crisis and business continuity plans and assists the Associate Director in crisis and continuity plan training and exercises.
Assesses current departmental staff/student/student organization risk management procedures and proposes modifications to current rules or the establishment of new rules regarding risk management for staff and students.
RISK, SECURITY, AND SAFETY - Coordinates and implements programs and training sessions for Department of Residence Life staff and student organizations on crisis management, proactive event/program planning, fire safety, fire alarms, fire drills, fire inspection, and other related topics.
Maintains annual safety orientation for on-campus residents and tracks completion of said orientation.
Proactively communicates with residents and their families about fire and life safety policies and procedures.
DUTY/CRISIS RESPONSE: - Serves in an on-call, 24-hour, 365-day, duty rotation for a campus population of approximately 11,000 consisting of the University Apartments and Residence Halls, including holidays and University closures.
Carries duty phone and responds to calls as they come in as trained and outlined in the Notification Matrix and completes necessary follow-up and reports.
Follows the Departmental process for changing duty times.
Completes duty log and time sheet daily during duty weeks.
Serves as essential personnel as situations warrant.
ADMINISTRATION - Assists Associate Director in planning and budgeting for the unit.
Participates in planning and coordinating risk management operations and procedures to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal policies and laws and best risk management practices.
Completes special projects and develops reports as assigned by the Associate Director and Executive Director.
DEVELOPMENT - Serves on department, division and university committees.
Represents the department at appropriate functions both on and off campus.
Participates in workshops and training as needed.
Attends bi-weekly meeting with Environmental Health and Safety Staff and the Environmental Safety Specialist.
