Job Description
The primary purpose of this position is to provide supervision/management to the University Tutorial Center.
This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Trains tutors in tutoring techniques, learning styles, adult learning theory, and tutoring students with special needs.
Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the supplemental instruction program.
Develops, coordinates, and presents workshops for campus constituencies and student groups on topics such as study skills, time management, active learning techniques, etc.
Researches, implements, modifies and maintains computerized and multi-media/tutorial programs and equipment; assists students in using equipment and software.
Provides leadership, supervision, and management to the Learning Curve, the primary University tutorial center, as well as the asynchronous (online) tutoring platform.
Recruits, selects, trains, and supervises tutors and supplemental instruction leaders for the University Tutoring Center.
Coordinates tutorial scheduling for the University Tutoring Center.
Lead the outreach and marketing of the University Tutoring Center and tutorial services to increase student participation and usage.
Reviews, revises and/or develops new policies and procedures for campus-wide tutorial services.
Maintain and update the tutorial handbook of policies and procedures as needed.
Research, analyze, and assess all the University Tutoring Center related programs and services to ensure efficacy and impact.
Maintains tutoring logs and correlates tutorial services’ impact on student academic progress and success.
Interface with and provides information to University faculty, staff, and administrators to assess and meet the academic needs of students.
Acts as liaison to the various University tutoring locations to ensure the implementation of best practices of tutoring and student academic support.
Assists in preparing the University Tutoring Center budget and makes purchase recommendations based on the needs of the services being provided to the student body.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
One year of related experience in an educational setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to work beyond normal office hours.
Hours: 12:00PM - 9:00PM Monday thru Thursday and 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Friday.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree.
Experience in supervising, training, and evaluating the work of others.
Experience with developing and managing databases.
Knowledge of learning theory, teaching and learning methodologies, customer service principles and practices, NTA’s best practices, and supplemental instructions methodologies.
Skills in data driven decision making, interpreting complex data and information, mediating difficult situations, supervising and coordinating the day-to-day operations of a tutoring services program.
