Wage Agency Instructor I – Recruit Fire Academy

00 per hour This Instructor is responsible for providing training for the Recruit Fire Academy Program in the state of Texas.
This position provides instruction and coordinates classes and field exercises.
The Instructor will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction.
The Instructor will use a variety of media to present course material.
The Instructor will also modify course curriculum, when necessary, to meet learner needs.
This position reports to the Training Manager.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED 4 years of related experience in firefighting One year of adult education and/or training Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certified Firefighter National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Instructor I certified or equivalent Preferred Qualifications: A.

degree from an accredited college or university Five years or more of experience in training or adult education Pro-Board certified in firefighting fields Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate orally and in writing Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, cold and heat Ability to operate in low visibility environments Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing) Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, wearing/movement of personal protective equipment, movement of training equipment, and instructional materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to operate independently in an IDLH environment with provided appropriate protective equipment, following current standards and techniques while operating common firefighting equipment and appliances Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced working knowledge and understanding in firefighting skills and tactics Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) in a classroom setting and/or hands-on training activities Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others Working knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups of various sizes Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods Ability to lead instruction and provide effective demonstration of required topics Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with clients and staff, groups of various sizes Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning Equipment: Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone Standard fire protection equipment, apparatus and clothing Training equipment Notifications: This position is security sensitive.
This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need.
As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
This position should average one to two course deliveries a month.
This position may require 25% or more travel.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Program Support and Training Delivery- 80%: Conducts Recruit Fire Academy field delivery courses and other courses as assigned Assists with exercise and evaluation course instruction and/or provide simulation technical assistance Prepares training/exercise and simulation materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to course and exercise deliveries Ensures classrooms/exercise locations are ready for participants Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and times Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course Ensures training/exercise materials, training aids, and classrooms/exercise locations are secured and accounted for upon completion of the course Completes timely reports and other related documentation are completed and secured following course and exercise deliveries Maintains subject matter expertise in NFPA 1001, 1072, 1403, 1500, 1851 standards, and NIMS ICS Maintains understanding of current Pro-Board and TCFP skills along with testing procedures Assists with Annual Schools and/or other special schools/activities as assigned Communication and Administration-20%: Completes and submits all required administrative work including but not limited to daily check sheets, class closeouts, travel submissions, and time/effort paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with Division, Agency and Program requirements Completes all training and work assignments on time and participates in course debrief with instructional team, as applicable, to determine delivery areas of improvement Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor Other Duties: Completes mandatory TEEX training and professional development training as assigned Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property Performs additional work duties as assigned As part of the TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position may, if called upon, deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/ HQ Department Head All positions are security-sensitive.
