What we want:
The Transit Bus Driver is responsible for driving the Texas A&M University transit routes as scheduled and providing customer service by assisting passengers with questions on policies, routes, etc.
What you need to know:
Salary: $16.
50/hr
Position can be a 10 month working from mid-August to mid-May or 12 month position.
Required Education and Experience:
High school graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years’ work experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record.
Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “B” vehicle operator’s license (commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 60 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrate the ability to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, adverse weather and road conditions.
Ability to exhibit a high degree of mental concentration and independent judgement.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to use a computer.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous commercial driving experience, customer service experience, training experience and mechanical experience.
Responsibilities
Driving- Drives Texas A&M University transit routes as scheduled.
Operates assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner and in adherence to all University, departmental and unit policies as well as local, state and federal laws.
Provides customer service by assisting with questions on policies, routes, checking ID’s, accurately documenting passenger counts, para service, etc.
Administrative- Conducts a proper pre and post trip vehicle inspection and note any discrepancies at the beginning and end of every shift.
Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to a Transit Supervisor or dispatch.
Responsible for cleanliness of all equipment assigned during shift.
Other Requirements or Other Factors- This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool.
This position also requires drivers to walk distances of up to a ½-mile unassisted between bus assignments, bend/stoop to conduct pre-trip bus inspection, kneeling to secure wheelchair on the bus and climbing limited stairs into high-floor buses.

Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc.
