Primary Purpose:
Ride bus and help driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students with and without disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively
Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
Ability to work well with children with disabilities
Ability to work well and cooperatively with the driver of the bus

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Management
Assist students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs.
(Students should not be lifted to get on or off the bus.
)
Cooperate with the bus driver to load and unload students using the bus lift mechanism when they are unable to load or unload using the normal service door route.
Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
Communicate with the Driver and Operations Specialist regarding student discipline.
Routes and Schedules
Become familiar with all routes to and from school campuses to be of assistance to driver.
Assist driver in maintaining an updated route schedule.
Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
Insure that all students, including those in wheelchairs, are secured safely for transport in the bus.
Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.
Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.
Other
Become familiar with and follow the procedures established by transportation.
Cooperate with the bus driver to keep the bus clean.
Be available to work irregular hours as needed.

Wheelchair lifts, ramps, locks, and special needs adaptive equipment when on Special needs route.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (25 pounds or less)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide travel.
Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
