Who We Are
2024 AGGIE SCHOOL OF ATHENS: Philosophy Camp for Teens
The Department of Teaching, Learning & Culture's award-winning Philosophy for Children (P4C) program includes the Philosophy Camp for Teens each Summer.
This camp enables campers to work collaboratively with Texas A&M University faculty, staff, and counselors and, most importantly, with each other to think carefully about some big ideas.
Campers will learn and practice critical thinking and improve logical and creative thinking.
What we want
We're seeking individuals with a passion for Philosophy to serve as Philosophy Camp for Teens - Summer Ca mp Staff.
The Philosophy Camp Staff will participate in and support the facilitation of camp discussion for both the middle and high school weeks of camp.
They will be involved in the logistics and camp planning leading up to the camps.
During the weeks of camp they will bring their subject expertise to help engage with campers and other camp staff.
Other duties as assigned will be related to the safe and orderly carrying out of the activities on a camp day and addressing needs as they arise.

Compensation: Commensurate upon experience
Position Details: A bility to be flexible and/or open availability for the month of June 2024.
Session Dates:
June 10th-14th Middle School (7th and 8th)
Time: 12:30pm-4:30pm
June 17th-21st High School (9th-12th)
Time: 12:30pm-4:30pm
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma
Experience working with youth
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work well with others, especially college students, and middle and high school age students
Ability to follow directions
Complete all trainings
Evidence of philosophy pedagogical experience or participation on pedagogy workshops
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduates or Graduate students with a background in philosophy as a discipline.
Interdisciplinary knowledge in humanities fields.
Training in philosophy for children pedagogy.
Experience teaching K-12, especially middle and high school students.
Graduate students in the humanities fields: Philosophy (preferred), English, other disciplines with a literary or philosophical orientation (e.
g.
, rhetoric, comparative literature, languages, political theory) MA or PhD.
Camp experience, and preferably experience as a philosophy camp counselor.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Facilitate Discussion - Lead engaging discussions that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and respect for divergent viewpoints.
Camp assistance - Help with small groups, snacks, small discussions.
Camp review - Camp meetings, camp planning.
