edu What We Want The Library Specialist I will be responsible for providing front service desk coverage 5:30 pm to 2:00 am, Sunday through Thursday.
This position will assist in monitoring the public environment and respond to disruptions.
They will act as a contact point to assist with library user environmental issues.
In addition, this position will respond and take appropriate action when security and/or fire alarms are set off or other building crises occur.

What You Need to Know Starting Salary: $15.
85 per hour Work Schedule: Able to provide front service desk coverage 5:30 pm to 2:00 am, Sunday through Thursday.
Able to adjust schedule on an occasional basis to help cover extended hours or in the event of an emergency.
Able to work early evenings or days during summer and periods between academic semesters.
Required Education and Experience: High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience One year of customer service and/or clerical experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores Knowledge of email, spreadsheet applications, and library online research database searches and/or processing Good interpersonal skills Reliable attendance Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to move throughout the buildings, including narrow aisles and small study rooms Ability to operate key and numeric keypad door locking systems Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Conflict resolution skills Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting guidelines and decision-making Responsibilities: Desk Operations: Provides front service desk coverage and assists with general operations.
Provides basic assistance in accessing resources.
Uses library computer system to charge/discharge materials (books, laptops, etc.
), audiovisual and course reserve materials to users.
Demonstrates basic conflict resolution skills with users.
Closes the library building when needed.
Collaborates with other weekday, early morning and night/weekend support staff.
Provides best service possible to library users.
Supports quality of work life initiatives.
Attends library and unit meetings and trainings as needed.
Support of User Environment: Assists in monitoring the public environment and responds to disruptions.
Opens and checks public areas for access by users.
Follows up on any outstanding facility issues related to access to public study spaces from the previous evening.
Performs study area sweeps for compliance with food/drink/noise guidelines.
Serves as contact point for reporting and follow up with appropriate authorities (facilities, UPD, etc.
) on environmental problems during overnight/early morning hours.
Periodically reviews status of group study rooms/chalk boards/bulletin boards and computers.
Assist Library Users: Conducts information interviews with library patrons and assists them in understanding the library systems.
Gives directional assistance in accessing needed resources.
Interprets and explains library guidelines.
Provides effective referrals to unit supervisors or other library service desks as appropriate.
Explains availability of library resources.
Uses the public online catalog to direct users to materials in the collection.
Directs users to services available on the library web site.
Service Desk backup: Provides desk coverage to other Library service point locations across campus as needed and assists with covering for staff shortages and/or special hours (one example is extended hours for finals).
Emergency Response: Responds and takes appropriate action when security and/or fire alarms are set off or other building crises occur, facilitates safe evacuation, implements administrative Call Tree, and performs post event department checks, as appropriate and p erforms other duties as assigned.
