Gessner Engineering is looking to welcome an Accounting Associate with experience supporting project/job-cost accounting processes.
In this role, you will provide essential support to the growing accounting team, playing a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance.
Your work will contribute to the smooth operation of our financial processes, an essential component of maintaining clear and accurate financials.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the general ledger
Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of financial activities throughout project workflows
Maintain accuracy through diligent and effective entry of financial data
Review invoices for appropriate documentation prior to payment
Support the Accounting team's ability to monitor accounts receivable balances, follow-up on invoices (ex: billing discrepancies) by coordinating with Project Managers and Clients as needed/appropriate
Record and post client payments
Maintain organized and comprehensive documentation (ex: W9s, COIs)
Interact with internal and external clients to resolve any discrepancies
Process credit card statements
Support opportunities for process improvement in procedures, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance through collaboration with all relevant stakeholders
Conduct bi-weekly payroll cycle
Maintain accounts payable accounts and cash handling procedures in alignment with company standards
Assist with accounting mailbox as needed

Qualifications
Education
Post-Secondary Education/Degree (Associate, Bachelor, etc.
) in Business, Finance or Accounting preferred
Experience
Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience required
Experience in professional services (e.
g.
construction, engineering, architecture, legal, etc) industry preferred
Skills
Accounting knowledge - GAAP, project accounting concepts
Technical proficiency with accounting software and financial management tools, preferably Enterprise Resource Planners
Numerical proficiency necessary to perform calculations
Critical thinking skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook
Excellent organizational skills
Attention to detail
Possess the ability and the willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to new processes
